About

Biography

Eishi Segawa is a media composer based in Japan. After a career as a songwriter and guitarist — with the bands Hooper (Sony Music / Antinos Records) and Fleming Pie (Toshiba EMI) — he turned to composing, and has since written music for more than 2,500 television commercials for clients including Sony, Rolex, Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Canon.

The Beatles' Revolver set him on the path toward composing; the jazz guitarist Joe Pass was another lasting influence, and his signature sound is grounded in jazz harmony. Self-taught in orchestration, he has scored a number of Japan's highest-grossing films — among them Gintama (Warner Bros.) and Flying Colors(Toho) — and top-rated series including The Best Divorce(Fuji Television) and three seasons of Yusha Yoshihiko (TV Tokyo).

In 2012 his score for the French short filmLe Dernier Jour de l'Hiver received the Best Music Award at the Hyères Les Palmiers Film Festival. Recent work spans the animeDrops of God and Sakamoto Days, Netflix'sCity Hunter, and the feature A Distant Neighborhood.
